Which image is used in Social Media
-
I’ve been searching through the Yoast Knowledgebase and this support forum trying to find a clear explanation of the exact hierarchy used when choosing what image will display in social media. I found this list in a couple posts on this forum from a Yoast contributor:
- A user-defined image “Facebook image” in the Social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box.
- A user-defined “Featured image” for the product page
- A prominent image from the page’s content.
- The default “Social image” for products in Search Appearance.
- The site’s fallback/default social image (set at SEO > Social > Facebook > Default image).
On my site there the first one does not exist. Under the social tab for a page there is only “Social Media Appearance” and “X appearance”. Did “Social Media Appearance” replace “Facebook image”? And what is the 4th item: The default “Social image” for products in Search Appearance?
Thank you!
