I’m unable to update to 4.2 so I wish to know which files/folders are used by WordPress for the update (or are all listed in the error message below?).

This info is very important so I’ll be able to change permission and ownership of those files/folders inherents.

    Thanks in advance

this is the error message from dashboard:

The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-settings.php, wp-cron.php, wp-comments-post.php, wp-load.php, license.txt, wp-login.php, readme.html, wp-config-sample.php

Typically in WordPress, directories (folders) are set to 0755 and files are 0644. These are common settings for a shared-hosting environment, but check this page for your specific setup first.

That page also contains info for tightening the security for certain files in WP if you feel the need to do so.

So far I’ve not seen the usual listing of which specific WP files were included in the 4.2 update, but you can probably track them down if you really need to know. Just setting your permissions as above, though, should get you back on track.

I made ad hoc the server myself, the only probllem is that I’m on an EC2 instance and for this I cannot proceed the way you explained.

I wish only to know all the files WordPress uses for the update.

    Thanks
