Which files to make writable to upgrade WordPress?

    When I try and upgrade I get this:

    Task Name: getlatestfiles
    Task Description: Downloads / Uploads the latest files for wordpress
    Task Status: Failed
    Task Start Date: 2010-08-26 05:00:53
    Task End Date: 2010-08-26 05:00:53
    Task Log: Starting to download the file from
    Could not write to local file

    I’ve been trying to upgrade for a while and have been changing the permissions on various folders to get it to work.

    Can someone please tell me which is the crucial folder that needs to be 0777 in order for the upgrade to work?

    I tried making wordpress contents writable (0777) but all that happened was that the images on my site stopped working.

    Any ideas anyone?

    I’d really like to do my WordPress upgrade.
