• Hi,

I’m several versions behind because I keep getting stuck when I try and upgrade. Apparently some of my files need to be made writable but I don’t know which ones. I have experiemented with making various ones writable but I end up with my images not showing or other odd errors.

    Can anybody help?

Ok, I think I’ll try removing the 2011 and 04 folders and make wp-content 766 and see what happens.

Thanks so much for your input guys, I really appreciate it.

Oh…try making an ftp account from your cpanel and use a ftp client to change the permissions.if this fails..try different combinations of permissions like esmi has stated.if all this fails including esmi’s advice then you should contact your hosting server.different hosts require different settings.

So I tried making wp-content 777, 776, 767 and 755. Still the same error message, aagh!

I’ll have a try at making an ftp account, and contact my host if that doesn’t work as you suggest.

Thanks again esmi and abinav, I’ll let you know how I get on ??

Yes I think its your host..Do try it with the ftp…let me know when you get it moving…

Do the normal debug. Disable all plugins, switch to the twentyten theme and try to upload your file. Add everything back until it breaks.

Thanks for your suggestion kmessinger. I tried it but still get:

“DSC00514.JPG” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory /home/livsim1/public_html/faregos.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Having a try at making an ftp client from cpanel. Unchartered waters for me…..

Check dashboard, settings, media, store uploads in this folder. Make sure there is no slash in front of

    wp-content/uploads
