where to set the jwt_auth_expire – Filter

Hello,
unfortunately I’m completely unsure where to configure the jwt_auth_expire– filter, due being a total WordPress newbie.
I can see the setting in the class-jwt-auth-public.php, but I guess it will be overwritten if the plugin updates.
Do I just put it in the wp-config.php ?
Could anyone please be so kind to point me into the direction to understand the concept of implementing filters, especially for this specific task?
