Where to locate the root .htaccess files

  • Hello i’m looking for the root .htaccess file.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    It is for this step, so i don’t delete the wrong one

    I located the wp-content & wp-config.php but cant find the root .htaccess file?

  • It should be in the same folder as your wp-config.php file – assuming that you have previously set up custom permalinks. Bear in mind that some FTP clients do not show .htaccess files by default and need to be re-configured to show all files.
