• An article from Google’s webmaster central blog mentions that in order to specify your preferred version of a URL (i.e. Canonical URLs) to Google, you need to add a <link> tag in the head section of all duplicate URLs – but I’m clueless as to where I get to find the <head> section of any URL; Is it through the cPanel that I have to find it, or in the WordPress Admin area? I’m confused, please clarify.

  • I’d suggest installing a Google Sitemap generator. Google will use the urls in the sitemap as your canonical urls.

I’ve done that already; then I’m also using All-in-one SEO plugin which has a field called “Canonical URLs” which generates all canonical URLs for the site automatically. Is it reliable enough? May I tick that option?

Coming back to the actual question, I’m just curious as to doing it manually and hope you could answer that one. ??

I’ve not used the All-in-one SEO plugin myself so I can’t personally vouch for the plugin but it is one of the most popular SEO plugins so I think it might be worth using its Canonical URLs option.

With regard to the <head></head> section of your pages, this section is generated by your theme’s header.php file. If you examine the source markup of any page on your site, you’ll find the generated section right at the top of the page.
