Hey Ladies and Gents of the support forums,

    Hope all is well.

So this morning I was browsing the news and read that WP had an update. Checked in with three of my clients websites and updated them. No problems at all.

Started looking at one that I just had recently created beginning of November (3.7.1). Well the auto notification of updating wasnt up. So I tried the manual way of forcing it to update through the dashboard. No dice again. Well guess time to do a manual install and followed the Manual install instruction on WP.org. Transferred all files and tried logging back in. Looked all good till I wanted to check out the new 2014 theme and wasnt able to change it. Strange I thought so I checked a few things, kept getting 404 and 500 server errors and ended up frying everything. Just too fed up.

Cleaned the server folder out. Downloaded a fresh copy of WP 3.8 & uploaded that. deleted the database and reinstalled everything, guess what. Same issue – site is still not working right. If I click on Appearances > Theme it literally redirects me to the main page. Same thing happens with a lof of the other pages. Either that or a a Server 500 internal error page. I checked the .htaccess file and went through the whole process of replacing and adding more code to it and that seems to have eliminated that issue. But still – cant access some of the sections in the Menu Section such as the Themes area to change things there.

Anyone else having issues with this?

  • Yes, similar issue with 3.8.
Can not change or save anything to the menu without it going hay why
I have tried all of the usual solutions.
Deactivated all plugins, reinstalled 3.8 and changed themes all to no avail.

@eerlewein – if you’re getting Internal Server Errors, ask your hosting company how to look at the error logs for your site.

@chrisgray_bec – could you please start your own thread so someone can help you with your particular situation –

Checked the Server Errors and 5 were found. All five for other domains also residing on the server. Missing files usually. Nothing major.

Starting installation process right now again.

Lets see if this will fix it.

Status unchanged. Here a short ScreenRecording off the issue.

I am guessing no one else is having these issues.

I will try once more. Maybe its just something time related

    Scenario.

Fried everything. Removed all files deleted all SQL DBs and started fresh.

Uploaded WP_3.8 files that I just DLed from wp.org.
Installed new DB under different name and User.
Started setup and install. Received server 500 error on step 2.

    found sollution here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-the-internal-server-error-in-wordpress/

If you are seeing the internal server error only when you try to login to your WordPress admin or uploading an image in your wp-admin, then you should increase the memory limit by following these steps:
Create a blank text file called php.ini
Paste this code in there: memory=64MB
    Save the file
Upload it into your /wp-admin/ folder using FTP

did that and now we are up and running. No problems.
