• My website is stuck in maintenance mode, I′ve deactivated the plugins and I′m in the ftp but I cannot find the .maintenance file to delete it. Does anyone know how I can sort this out? Thanks in advance

  • It should be in the root folder of your site. Also note that some FTP clients hide certain files so look for an option to show files that start with a period.

Thanks, I′ve selected to force hidden files and I can′t find anything in the file folders of the site either, maybe it has another name… but what.. don′t have a clue yet

Your site loads for me. Any chance the maintenance page is cached by your browser?

I′ve selected another browser and the maintenance page is still coming up

I′ve taken it over from someone else, and there are a lot of errors due to the plugins, which is why it′s going into maintenance mode…

My apologies. Your site is in maintenance mode. Because it wasn’t in English I didn’t immediately notice what it was saying, but now I clearly see what it is saying.

Would you be interesting in trying a quick experiment? I don’t know that it’ll work…

    1. Create an empty .maintenance file locally.
    2. FTP it. Do you see the file?
    3. If yes, delete it.
    4. If not, your FTP client is still hiding files.

hmmm… but where do I create the file?

Create it on your computer and then upload it to the root folder of the website.

I got in lol, yes I see the .maintenance file I created

I deleted it… still in maintenance mode… shall i delete the maint folder I found?

The only maint folder I know about is under /wp-admin/maint/ i.e. not the root. I wouldn’t delete that one.

Maybe you’re not actually in maintenance mode. Any chance your site is loading a default page like index.html that looks like you’re in maintenance mode? Or perhaps the .htaccess file is directing visits to a maintenance page?

Don′t know but it says maintenance, the page doesnt load under customize either
