• I’m very new to WordPress and setting up websites. I have set a website on WordPress.com but couldn’t add any new themes to it since it didn’t have the ‘Add New’ button at the the top of the page where all the online instructions said it should be.

Having read around I think I need to load WordPress on my laptop and go through the FTP etc installation process but I’m not sure and don’t want to go through this process unless I have too as seems quite complicated.

I do also have hosted domain name that I was going to move my WordPress.com website once I was happy with it.

  • WordPress.com don’t let you install a theme. A lot of themes out there in WordPress.com directory to choose from.

To add a new theme of your choice you need to either install WordPress on your laptop or Install at Hosting server with your own domain.

Here are difference between .org and .com based WordPress.

You can install a demo version at your hosted domain and make it live once you happy with it.

    Hi Jeff!
I use WordPress.com for a site that I run and I want to understand your problem. Do you want to add a new theme that is not present in the selections offered by WordPress.com or do you want to select a different theme offered on WordPress.com but do not see how to do so? While using WordPress.com, go to your admin page, on the left hand side look for Appearance –> Themes. From there you should see lot of themes some pay for some free. To select a new theme, hover over the theme with your mouse and click on “Activate”

    Does that help? Good luck!
