I have just reinstalled wordpress, and it came up with the default twentyten theme. I am going to use this theme, and am trying to install the child theme. I have created a child theme under /wp-content/themes/childtheme. When I am in my dashboard, I can see taht the twentyten theme is active, and I can click on and see the style.css sheet. However, this file is missing when I look in my godaddy file manager, under /wp-content/themes/twentyten. There is an editor-style.css, but no style.css file. I am perplexed. Also, I have created a style.css file in my child theme, and there is no option to install it in my dashbaord. Is this because the style.css is missing from twentyten? Why can I view the style.css in my dashboard? Please help! Thanks.

  • Well, either there is a style.css file in /wp-content/themes/twentyten and GoDaddy can’t see it, but it should be overridden anyway in the child theme (/wp-content/themes/childtheme/style.css)… did you accidentally move the style.css file from the parent theme to the child?

No, I didn’t move anything. I had this problem before I renistalled, and that’s the reason why I reinstalled wordpress- to get a clean start. I used the text editor to create my style.css that I ftped to my child theme, so I know that’s not the problem. The twentyten theme shows up fine in my dashboard, and on my site: ecbloom.com. When I try to select my child theme, it is not in my dashboard. Very frustrating. Should I rename my editor-style.css to style.css in twentyten? I really don’t know what to do here.

Hmm, strange. I would delete the TwentyTen theme folder and reupload if I were you.

For your child theme, make sure the style.css file contains template: twentyten

I figured it out! It took me waking up in the middle of the night and thinking about it. When I imported the style.css file for my child theme, it had some extra strange code at the top. I just used the text editor in godaddy, and started a new text editor, which I will now be using instead. One of those “Doh!” moments- thanks!
