Where are your instructions to use this plugin please?

hi Frodo, the plugin in quite simple to use:
    – install it using WordPress plugins’ administration page
    – go to “settings – extra file types”
use the checkboxes to select which file extensions you want to enable
use the checkboxes to enable workarounds you might need

    Ciao Davide,

basically you are right: For most cases using EFT is straight forward, thanks for the vast amount of pre-configured file types — almost 900 at present, whow! However, if the pre-configured file type checks do not work (for whatever reason), or a pre-configured type conflicts with another type of the same extension, or a suitable MIME type must be selected for a custom type, or … it can be really tricky to get EFT to work. For me it’s hard to understand, how all the bits and pieces of file type checking work together behind the scenes.

May be you could spend some words on this topic? For example, I am wondering about:

    * : Afaik WP tries to guess the content type and encoding of a file by looking for some ‘magic content’ (typical byte sequences at specific positions within the file). While this is not a bullet proof approach the heuristics used do a very good job. For more in depth information read the documentation of PHP’s File Information Extension at https://www.php.net/manual/en/book.fileinfo.php

By the way: I have reviewed almost everything in this forum and on EFT’s Plugin page and summarized it in a text as “documentation” for me, and I’d love to contribute it. Howto?

    Cheers,
    Willy

Hi Willy, i think you’re right saying the plugin should need some in-depth documentation.

If you’d like to share the documentation you’ve already done give me a link to download it and i may use it as a starting point and add more details (where/when needed)

    …sure! Checkout this.

Please search the texts for “[” to find my knowledge gaps. And keep in mind that I summarized the forums postings, some of them dating back five years, so things may have changed as the plugin evolved.
