Just upgraded to the latest version of Yoast on one of my sites, and noticed that there had been a change in how the sitemaps were generated.

Sure enough, on going to General>> Features>> XML Sitemaps>> View your sitemaps – they had all disappeared.

    Where have they gone to?

@deeveearr Can you please let us know what version you upgraded to 14.5 from?

Enabling/Disabling the XML Sitemaps is still located under General>Features>XML Sitemaps in the current version.

Are you not seeing that feature listed, or are you having a problem viewing your site’s sitemap? If you aren’t able to view the sitemap, can you please provide us with the URL to the sitemap so that we can check on it?

    Hi @devnihil

Upgraded from the last version to this new one (something like 14.4.1?).

Yes, the feature is listed, but there’s a problem viewing the sitemap.

Here is a URL TO THE SITEMAP

Just checked on another website, and the sitemaps on there are working as normal, so it’s just the above URL.

    Hello @deeveearr!

We loaded your sitemap and we got a blank screen. However, If you view the source code, you’ll see that your sitemap contains the appropriate data. It’s just that the stylesheet file isn’t loading on your site. Search engines shouldn’t have any problems reading the sitemap as it reads the source code and not the human-readable browser view. To fix this, please refer to this kb article.

I tried to view the source code and there was no drop-down to view it.

It was working fine until the latest update – I might roll-back to the previous version.

Ok so I might have been a little hasty in saying that the sitemaps were working fine up until the last update.

Using the Rollback plugin, I went all the way back to version 12.0 and still the sitemaps weren’t showing.

So out came the trusty Health Check plugin once I’d reinstalled the latest version, and troubleshooting mode was selected.

Yoast was activated whist in troubleshooting mode, and still no sitemaps.

    Hi @deeveearr,

Thank you for your replies and troubleshooting.

It is correct that the browser wouldn’t let you ‘view source’. However, if you would put view-source: before the URL, you would see the source code.

If in troubleshooting mode where Yoast is the only active plugin and the sitemap stylesheet doesn’t load then, we expect this to be server or installation related.

Digging more into this. We see that the stylesheet is not able to load. We get a 403 forbidden for the stylesheet, that is why the Yoast plugin can’t load the stylesheet too. Please check with your host or site developer how to fix the 403 error and when the access is solved on the file, it should resolve the sitemap issue. You might want to check the file permissions.

Thanks, I just contacted my host and they removed a ‘layer of security within .htaccess’.

Not sure how it got there, but it’s working fine now.

    Hi @deeveearr,

Thank you for getting back. Happy to hear your host resolved the access to the file.

We are going ahead and mark this topic as resolved. If you require any further assistance please create a new forum topic. Thank you!
