Where are the posts stored?

My webhost has been doing weird things with open base_dir resrictions, which has crippled my blog’s uploading ability. I tested a fresh blog install, and it works fine, which might mean a workaround is best…

Here’s the question:

How do I point the new blog at the old mysql database? Does this work, or am I on the wrong track? Any suggestions are welcome.
