• hey, where are the plugin toolbar items in gutenberg?

    —where did the toolbar go?
    —can the toolbar be activated?

i mean the icons that used to appear as a “toolbar” above the editor. plugins would have their own custom icons and those would appear above the editor. from adding media to iframes to shortcodes to other customized content — plugins had/have their own access method via icons in the toolbar.

    where are those?

i found a (+) that appears to the left of blocks

a pop-up menu appears and provides extensive options

even though there are more options, i can’t find the options i had before

at least some of the previously available options are in this (+) menu

but still: where are the plugin options?

Shouldn’t this be under “Support” and not a review?

on my end, this post appears here:

    Support ? Plugin: Gutenberg ?

oh, i can see now that there is a “level below” where there is “only support”

well, that’s pretty difficult to see

if someone wants to move my thread there, go ahead, i am not sure how to move the thread

    maybe it’s not that important…

It really isn’t that important. We can see the question here just fine.

The answer is that this is a new editor, and it won’t have the toolbar items from the old editor. The plugins that add such items will need to be updated to the new editor. They may not be adding toolbars anymore, they may be adding entire blocks instead. It depends on what their purpose is.

But yes, those toolbars are mostly gone. Blocks only have icons that directly pertain to their contents. Having one overall giant toolbar doesn’t make sense anymore.

why create a new editor that does this to plugin developers?

The plugins that add such items will need to be updated to the new editor.

there are accordion-type drop-open fly-out type headings that even include a “funny or die” block…well ok…what about a “plugin elements” “block?”

just code it so that plugin developers don’t have to re-code…

    would that be useful/cool?

I get that, but at the same time, this is a completely new editor. Backward compatibility is indeed extremely important, but when you’re straight replacing a thing, completely, it’s not always possible.

I would like the Classic block to maintain some of this functionality and backward compatibility. Might make it a bit more palatable.

I just spent over an hour to “just simply” add H2 subheads. Also, every time I edited and saved, a pop up would come back and ask if I wanted to continue in classic (I went to classic when I finally gave up looking for H2 Subheads) or switch to Gutenberg. No. Go away.

So, you can add a block called “Heading”, and it has a choice of H2, H3, or H4 right in the toolbar for it.

Where did this go wrong for you? What was the issue you had with finding it?

Also, if you’re having problems, please create your own thread in the Support area. Much easier to answer questions and keep things separated that way.
