I’ve got 1300 photos I imported into my NextGen Gallery from an old PHP gallery app called Photobank. These photos had keywords associated with them in Photobank that I need to store in the tags field of Gallery. I’ve managed to export the keywords from Photobank by extracting them from the MySQL database that Photobank uses. Now, I’d like to import these but can’t find a tool to do it. I’ve checked the Gallery MySQL database tables but can’t find where the tags are stored.

Please could you somebody let me know where the tags are stored in the MySQL tables so I could import them?

  • Hello @jamesslong,

One question will be if each photo already has the “tags” or “Keywords” in place (photo metadata). If you upload or import a photograph, NextGEN Gallery reads the metadata and fills our “Keywords” with the information available on each image.

Please, feel free to read these documentation links:

Use Image Metadata Within NextGEN Gallery
    https://www.imagely.com/image-metadata/

    Image Meta Data
    https://www.imagely.com/docs/image-meta-data/

Note: there is a bulk action in Manage Gallery to “Import metadata”

About the location of those tables, we are deeply sorry, but that is out of our support scope.

The photos didn’t have keywords stored in their EXIF data and I spent many days without luck trying to find a tool which could import from CSV or similar into the files so I could use that functionality.

I have started manually entering the keywords/tags against the photos using the Gallery interface, but this could take me tens of hours to complete, hence my request for information to make this job easier. If I knew where in the database the tag data was stored I could use a SQL script to import the data from a CSV.

    Hi @jamesslong,

We are sorry but currently, NextGen doesn’t provide with such a feature that would allow to easily import galleries or EXIF data from CSV files.

I too have a question about the Tags, so could I please ask that you explain How the Tags are stored in the database?

    Thank you for your help.
