• Hello

I recently began using WordPress 5.0.1 and noticed that the Posts and Pages screen s have dramatically changed. The major problem is I can’t find the Slug Field and Screen Options!

Would someone please help me work out how slugs are managed? Neither the Settings nor the Show more tools and options menus display any option related to the slug.

  • Hi @eadwig!

I’m sorry you’re facing this issue. The interface is certainly very different. Hopefully, the following helps.

    Editing a post slug:
Once you’ve saved a draft of your post, clicking in the title field should cause the post’s permalink to be shown above that field. If you see the permalink area, there should be an Edit button there to edit the post slug. In case it helps, here is a gif showing that in action:

    Changing screen options:
Screen options can be found by opening the “Show more tools and options” menu in the top right corner of the editor (the button’s icon is like a vertical ellipsis) and selecting the “Options” item. In case it helps, here is a gif showing those options being opened:

    View post on imgur.com

    Does that help?

To view and edit the slug, you need to be in the Code Editor view.

    – Click on the Show more tools button on the upper right corner of the toolbar and click on Code Editor

    – Click on the title and the slug/permalink will appear above.

In either Visual or Code Editor, clicking on the title also shows the permalink on the sidebar.
