    Note: I am using AVADA Theme version 5.8.2

    I downloaded Smush free version and happily smushed my images.
    They disappeared from the media library they are still on the pages and in my revolutions sliders, but if go to page to edit an image i am told it cannot be found in the media library.

    I read some other posts on this site so i decided to remove smush and see if my media library returned it did not, the only images left in it are the one smush could not smush.

    This is a clients website and i am concerned that i do not have the original media images in media library.

    Do you have some solution. Did this plugin put the images in place other than media library? Were the images abducted by aliens?

  • Hi @abigaildcd,

    Smush does not touch your original images. Unless you downloaded a pirated version, your images will be left intact. Please use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to revert all thumbnails to the original states.

    First of all I would never use a pirated version of anything. Second of all my images are not intact. what kind of response is this? I have a genuine issue here and my images are not showing up in the media library. I have tried to regenerate thumbnails to no avail that is why i posted the question.

    In addition i removed the plug in to ensure no conflicts. This postingw as as a last resort before i reload every image on the site.

    @abigaildcd,

    I have only stated that Smush does not touch the original images. If they are missing from the media library, you have several options to find what plugin is causing the issue for you:

    1. When opening the media library you can check the browser console for errors. And post them here, so we can figure out the next step. If you are not familiar on how to use the browser console, you can refer to this article: https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/console/

    2. Do a plugin conflict test – disable all plugins and see if the images appear back in the media library. If they do, turn on plugins one-by-one to find the one that is causing the problem.

    3. Also it would be good to verify that the images are present in the wp-content/uploads folder.

    okay please let users know if you have WP FullText search enabled with the mime types of applications/pdf in limit mimetypes box on the search options box then all of your images will disappear from media library except pdfs if you install Wp smush and run it. I just tried it.

    I am going to post this to WP FullText support forum. If you need access to images you have to deactivate that plug in, run smush, make any changes to images and then reactivate your search plugin and re add the mimetypes limitation, if you are using one.

    I hope this helps others and thanks for helping me

    @abigaildcd,

    Awesome. Thanks for reporting this as well. I will see what can be done on Smush side to prevent this from happening as well.

    No problem, I am fairly new to WordPress but i like the way it works and the collaboration. I am going to reinstall the plugin and then look at purchasing for other websites i work on. For right now the work around is not elegant but then again when is life elegant!

    all the best

    what was the main cause of that issue please ?

    @ghina1, there’s a conflict with WP FullText Search and Smush, when all images disappear from the media library screen. The files are actually there, just not showing. I am investigating on what can be done to resolve this.

    @vanyukov , ok I want to optmize my images put I’m a little bit confused about what to use … do you have any suggestion plz as I am new on wordpress and don’t want to use lots of heavy plugins or to affect the site

    @ghina1,

    I would recommend you try out Smush. It will use external servers to optimize the images, so your website doesn’t do any heavy lifting. Also it won’t touch the original images, so you can always go back to where you started.

    Best regards,
    Anton

    @vanyukov but I create a lot of copies for the original images, right?
    Can you explain briefly how it works pleas?
    also do it affect the performance score in GTmetrix? as it very important for my customer.

    @ghina1,

    Smush does not create any copies. For every image that you upload to your site, WordPress will generate various attachment sizes, that are registered with your theme. So you end up with one original image and a bunch of smaller images. Smush will optimize all these extra images, generated by WordPress, to take up less space and pass all GTmetrix tests.

    Best regards,
    Anton

    @vanyukov aha okay,, If i decided to delete it after will the original images affect?

    does this plugin delete everything after there? database tables, images??

    @ghina1,

    As I said before, Smush does not create additional images, thus it does not delete anything on uninstall. Your original images will be left intact. All the database tables will be removed on uninstall

    Best regards,
    Anton
