We are moving a WP Multisite setup from a staging domain to its final home. We search and replaced the domain in a SQL dump, and reloaded the SQL – all is well except all “which is the primary menu” and “header image” settings have been ‘forgotten’ – defaults are showing.

Where is this info stored, and thoughts on why this data didn’t transfer over?

Update 1: On further research, I think I’m looking for what set_theme_mod() and remove_theme_mod() affect.

Update 2: OK, it’s apparently set wp_#_options as mods_$theme, but the data is oddly serialized or something! Help!

Update 3: the mod_mytheme option for each blog does contain the URL of my desired header images, it’s just not getting read.

what was the domain name for the staging, and what did you replace it with? something like:
    https://localhost/ to https://www.mysite.com
The different lengths cause an issue when you change it within serialised data.

Yes, the domain changed from v3.mydomain.com to https://www.mydomain.com. Not being able to migrate between subdomains seems like pretty serious design flaw to me.

It’s weird that is just ignored the theme mod and went to defaults instead of spitting out nonsense.

Oh well – manually updating 53 sub-sites (why can’t we specify a file in the media library for a header?) really stank, but at least it’s done now.
