@eliasgdj, @hackernewbie is not wrong at all. I help some schools maintain their websites and student run WordPress sites. I have factual data that says Gutenberg is useless when it comes to end user.

Not one of the teachers, kids, or even the technically aligned people I have worked with found it useful. Classic editor is what they are using now.

Gutenberg should be a plugin.

Automattic needs a revitalization plan. So even though they know nothing about how WP is used in the wild, they took over the Core development process and declared the editor the problem, and Gutenberg the answer.

And then it freaking hit me. Exactly! They revitalized their paid platform in order to “compete” while disregarding the WP users outside their paid platform. Ok, now this makes perfect sense. Their platform users are basic users anyway who can’t go the length of installing this on a host and running this on their own, so to compete and make “innovations” they introduced this FOR THE PAID PLATFORM and the rest of WP community has to take the pill, too. Who cares about the rest of the WP users who promote the use of the WP anyway, right? It’s about the users of the PAID platform.

Got it.

THAT doesn’t make it useful to the rest of the community outside the paid platform, because that community went much further than WP will ever go. Automattic just has to make sure Classic Editor continues to work and that’s it.

They can do whatever they want to blocks for their paid users. No problem, just leave us do our thing in the wild.

Also, I think it’s clear that users want more design and layout control, and that’s why Page Builders like Elementor are so popular. Gutenberg is the answer to that.

Also, it’s easier to use for new users. I have a lot of clients that don’t know how to use the classic editor.

I am laughing my butt off at that one. No, it’s not. By far.

If they don’t know how to use a Classic Editor they haven’t really edited anything in their life and good luck with Gutenberg. Show them any other page builder and ask them which is easier to use. Classic Editor plus page builder or solely Gutenberg.
