When will catablog work in IE9?
-
It was noted that catablog works in IE8, however, I am now using IE9. The lightbox feature doesn’t work in IE9, but does work in the latest Chrome and Mozilla. Any reason why it doesn’t work in IE9?

This is the first I have heard of this, so thanks for the report. Could you be more specific as to what version of CataBlog and WordPress you are using? Also if you are using a custom theme, could you try switching back to twentyten and seeing if that fixes it. Also disable all other plugins to make sure it is CataBlog that is causing the error.
Keep in mind that previous versions of IE have stopped execution of all scripts If there is even one error in any of your page’s JavaScript . Chrome, Firefox and other browsers do not exhibit this behavior, so that could also be your issue. Also, If you are using CataBlog 1.2.6, could you try switching to an older version, perhaps 1.2.5.3, and see if that fixes the problem.
Why I haven’t tested in IE9 yet: I don’t own a copy of Windows 7 and I don’t pirate software. I know that isn’t an excuse, but it is the situation. Since IE9 is only available for Windows 7, I will need to pay $250 dollars to test IE9, sorry I’m not doing that anytime soon Micro-rip-off. Does someone who uses CataBlog want to buy me a copy….
I’m sorry if that comment was a little harsh, I have wanted to get my hands on IE9 for awhile now and its so frustrating what Micro$oft did. I develop CataBlog on Mac OS 10.6 and use vmware to run Windows XP Pro. So far it has worked well for me, but I am gonna have to go buy a version of Windows 7 now, and I am not excited about it. My personal belief is that all web browsers should be free, and if there are specific OS requirements, let a service like spoon give people access to your browsers through emulation. If you haven’t heard of spoon before it is awesome, they let you run applications through cloud computing, so you can test almost every browser, including lots of old ones like Firefox 2. Currently spoon is only on Windows, but I hope one day they will release their software for Mac or Linux.
Hi, no I perfectly understand the stuff you said about IE and Microsoft. Yes, I am using Windows 7 but I had no idea that ppl who don’t use Windows 7 don’t get to have IE9.
Anyway.. I did like you asked, I deactivated all plugins and Catablog still won’t display the lightbox in IE9. Then I changed themes to TwentyTen and it still wouldn’t display! Then I downloaded Catablog 1.2.5.3 from the Plugin site, but when I installed it, WP Admin still said it was version 1.2.6? I originally downloaded 1.2.6 from the WP Extend download page. But I deleted the old catablog and really uploaded the version that I downloaded from your plugin site. But even after that, catablog still would not display the lightbox in IE9. Hmmm.
I’m using WordPress 3.1.2. I was using catablog on 3.1.1 too and it didn’t display the lightbox in IE9 then either.
Ahh… I missed the part about you using Mac OS. Okay, I get it now.

First off, I wanted to clarify that IE9 is also available for Windows Vista.
Here are a few links that I found online about IE9 and jQuery, the JavaScript library that the CataBlog LightBox depends on.
https://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2011/03/02/jquery-1-5-1-supports-ie9.aspx
I fear that WordPress itself will need to upgrade its built in version of jQuery to 1.5.1 or 1.6, otherwise I will need to include an updated version within the plugin. This could cause all sorts of issues, since other plugin developers might not expect or want me to load the newest 1.6 version instead of the 1.4.4 version that is built into WordPress.
Their should only by one version of jQuery loaded on a page, and I really don’t want to add unnecessary complexity or conditional code within the plugin to solve this problem. I will continue to research and possibly drop $299 on Windows 7 as a business expenses. I guess my paying clients are gonna want me to test their sites in IE9 now that is it public and growing in popularity. I’ll let you know what I find.
Ya, my other PC is using Home Vista and we’ve got IE9 on there too. Actually, I used to only use Mozilla or Chrome. But when IE9 came out, I was surprised at how nice my website looked on it, so I updated the Vista PC from IE8 to IE9. (My noteboook is Windows 7 and updated to IE9 automatically) Now I don’t even know if the lightbox works in IE8 (since I updated it to IE9). Yeah, I have other plugins that use JQuery, but have no idea what versions they need to run on. Should I ask the other plugin developer?
If you give me the link I can check if the LightBox works in IE8 for you, it would be easy enough for me. Also, spoon.net, whom was mentioned earlier will let you test on different versions of IE for a monthly fee of like $12 or something…
Thanks for offering. Here is the link:
https://nuunaa.com/wp/stylist/2011/05/dubai-fashion-week-april-19-23-2011/I checked out the dubai fashion week page on your site in IE8 on Windows XP Pro and all seems to be working fine. I was able to open the LightBox and navigate to the next and previous images.
Just wanted to mention that Windows 7 is on its way to my house. Not happy that I was forced to pay for an upgrade to test Internet Explorer 9, but thats the breaks.
Hi elleseven,
I just checked out the link you sent me, and it is working in IE9 as well now, so that is good. Perhaps you upgraded to version 1.2.7? Anyways, just thought you might want to know. Cheers!
Hi, no it’s not on both my PCs actually, which are using IE9. The lightbox still does not pop up, instead the photo opens in another screen. It works in Mozilla and Chrome.
The link you sent me above worked perfectly in Internet Explorer 9, running on Windows 7 Home Premium edition, 64 bit, Service Pack 1. I am unsure why it would not work on your version of IE9, does a yellow box in the lower left of the internet explorer window appear when the page loads or you click to open the LightBox? If so, please double click it and send me the error message, if not…could you please try emptying all your browsers caches and reloading a couple times again. Thanks
No yellow box appears, and after deleting browser caches and reloading, it still does fix the problem. This is really frustrating. Should I assume that if it works for you, it works for everyone else except me?
