• I’m no coder, so I chose word-press because of the ease of dashboard and templates – I’m working on twenty eleven. Now that I have the site to my liking with widgets organized in the right hand column; as soon as I preview my first post, the whole of the right hand column disappears. Feel somewhat cheated by the theme and out of my depth here – can anyone help without baffling me with techie stuff. I’ve shortened my permalinks, cropped down the blog title and reduced the writing line width to 10,any other ideas most welcome.

    Regards – Martin

This is the normal behaviour for the Twenty Eleven theme. Single Pages & Post do not have a sidebar by design. Perhaps you need to look for another theme?

help without baffling me with techie stuff

difficult – possibly trying a plugin is not too baffling?

Thing my terminology is a bit off here; Its the stuff that I put in as widgets, text widgets, categories and the like that’s gone. Lynda.com tutorial is good, it behaves well for the tutor, on twenty ten but the twenty eleven appears not to respond. So I’m going to change theme to see if the widgets down the right side of the homepage/blog don’t get bounced. The footers are still where it should be. Any other ideas most welcome

As we’ve tried to explain, Twenty Eleven is designed to remove the sidebar on single Posts & Pages.

    I’m going to change theme

No! Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes. Or use the plugin that alchymyth suggested.

ths stuff is colectively also referred to as ‘sidebar’ – once you have the sidebar in single posts and pages, you have your widgets…

I agree, it’s designed so that you have the option to remove side bar, and even change the side. Have created pages with no sidebar visible and they are grand. On my front home page, that says in the original blog ‘hello world’, all the side widgets are shown. See https://www.dealing-with- separation.com. Yet am I to understand that if I blogged, then all the data down the right sidebar is then not visable to anyone? I can switch this on or off on all the other pages created except this default doesn’t appear to be editable.

    On single Posts, yes.

Hi ESMI, Excuse my thicknuss, but does this mean If I write up say three to four posts then they will cascade in a nice row down the left hand side and my widgets will then appear. Just wanted to be sure so i didn’t go imputing bolgs and articals over the next two says to no avail. – Thanks for your time on this – regards martin

Hi ESMI; You are absolutely right ! ! ! Did a couple of tests posts (which I deleted) and when the there’s two posts it does settle into a left and right. Thought I was in for a brain squeesing session there when I first saw it previewing singularly. Thanks again for your time – Regards Martin
