The main reason why I decided to get TinyMCE Utimate was that I believed it would stop WordPress from removing vertical spaces from my posts.

I haven’t used TinyMCE for a long time, but I have a post with several tables in it (the tables have been created by copy pasting from Excel). Whenever I open this blog post to modify it and save it again, vertical spaces after each table are removed! so I have to add them again.

Is it supposed to be like this? Can I make any setting to discourage the removal of vertical spaces?

Hi apples333… and thanks for posting!!

Well, yes and no. The WP editor is definitely a hassle when it comes to switching between the ‘visual’ and ‘text’ modes; and also while saving.

There are a variety of filters used by both WP and Tinymce to “sanitize” the content. This is where the problems usually lie.

Why don’t you show me a link to the page where the spacing is getting messed up. Let me take a look at how your theme is styling the tables. This might be interfering as well…

Thank you for the quick response Josh!

What happens is that when I open and save, vertical whitespaces after each table are removed.

Okay… so you mean the tables “stack up” on top of each other, when you save?

If that is the case… go to the Ultimate Tinymce admin settings page, and look for the option to use the “[break]” shortcode. I think it’s either under the “misc” tab or the “admin” tab.

Once that option has been enabled.. you can use the [break] shortcode to insert linebreaks that will NOT be ‘eaten’ by the editor when you save.

Here is an example from my Ultimate Tinymce Pro website, using linebreaks (the free version works exactly the same with this option):

Please let me know if this is what you are talking about.

    Thanks!
