• Since importing old website into new server;
    short version:
I had a hardware crash, the old server was running SuSE Linux Enterprise.
The new server is running Debian v8.2.0
Added 2 new HDD. ran it up and WP was working good.
The old HDD was added, after much work, I was able to export the website DB and then import it into MySQL.
I had to export and dump the original WP.
Now that MySQL has the website imported, I made the changes to wp-content.php to reflect the website added.
Now when I try to bring up the website, I get no error but I get a white screen.
What I was looking for is a way to troubleshoot this and get it fixed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Jon

  • Juggle, performance is not too bad as such, but rewriting an old website for a sky mag is clearly not advised … This will not tell anything but old website was bad.

Not to mention, WP is far from the best solution now for a very small speak in audience.

@digico since the OP states it took ten minutes to login, determining if it is an issue with WP or the servers a step in solving the issue. Please don’t presume to answer for @jonl171. thank you.

So I’m not sure what is happening, other then I may have missed something either in the apache2 config, MySQL config or WordPress config.
The location of the site is /var/www/html/domain_name.
What I’m looking for is troubleshooting information that could point me in the right direction.
Unfortunately none of the logs are showing anything regarding this.

Hello, you’re clearly quoting around the issue, I think. Problem is, this issue depends any Linux flavour, so unless it’s for Ubuntu LTS it would be useless.

@juggledad If the server was running only WordPress, then sure. But I don’t presume anything, sorry. Logs should have helped a bit (probably private, I know).
@Jon171 No need to worry for much, you’re using a very secure system. Asking to help on a WP setup was probably too presomptious to try to help.

I’ll have to go for today, have a nice day,

@juggledad, I’ll do a complete new install and see if that works any better and get back to you.

If you or anyone need to see the site I have it in Dropbox ready to send if I have an email address.

Hello, is it solved now Jon?

    Hi Digico,

I sent a link for you to check out the WP, in dropbox.

Let me know you received it ok.

    (@jonl711)

@juggledad – an update, I installed a fresh copy of WP and it came up okay, no lag no issues.
So the problem has to be in the old website.

Additional information, this server is strictly for running the website, no e-mail, no file and print.
    Just images and a website.

@digico – hope you find the issue.

    Hi,

No I didn’t receive the link sorry,

Please send the url in a pastebin stuff (pastebin.com) or my ticket app if you want to be private (https://goo.gl/6sLjMr)

    Sorry,

Ah good! so issue is solved or not?

I guess it’s CLOSED / SOLVED for now.

    (@jonl711)

    No it’s not solved

Why don’t you import the old database into the new site? just delete all teh tables from the DB and import. If it still has an issue then it has something to do with the database.

Alright, what is still wrong then?

We just solved a case where the guy used the ALL IN ONE WP MIGRATION plugin after many trials – and it finally worked for him (all suggestions failed for him because of account size – lack of hard drive space).

Another words, Suse, Mac server whatever flavour of unix/linux works the same, files + database.

+1 to juggle too, if file structure is basically the same, you have old files and old database, why not just rewrite the whole stuff? (it works if all is in order for root url in wp-config.php AND wp_options mysql table).

    We’ll figure it out!

@ juggledad, I had a good working WP database before and I dumped it and imported the old site. This caused the problem. So you are saying to deleted the tables keep the database and import old site in the empty database?
