When entering Facebook Account ID, the Like buttons stop working

  • We just noticed this last night so it’s likely caused by a change in how Facebook handles the Open Graph data:

    If you enter a Facebook Account ID in the plugin, all Like buttons on the site stop working – that is to say when you click Like, the number goes up one and then down one almost immediately. In other words no Like is registered. By taking the Account ID out the like button works again.

    Moreover with the Account ID inserted, the Facebook Developers Lint Tool returns an unknown error:

    I’m guessing this is just Facebook being up to no good, but it’s an issue that will appear for anyone using the plugin so it should be dealt with swiftly. I’ve tested it on 5 different sites and they all have the same problem.

    UPDATE: I’ve figured out what’s causing the issue described above:

    It seems something has been changed over at Facebook with regards to Open Graph tracking. Whereas before you could enter the ID of the Facebook page and use it to track Likes stats, you now have to enter the ID of the Administrator.

    The issue described earlier arises when you enter a Page ID. This returns an error. When you enter an Admin ID, everything works fine. It also looks like you can enter an array or list of Admins though I’m not sure how that works or what format this should be in.

    Yes, you must add the ID of your personal account. So mine would be syedbalkhi for example. I cannot add wpbeginner in that field.

    If you want multiple users to have access to your site’s data then you can add multiple account IDs separated by comma.

    I installed this plugin yesterday and i observed the problem that mor10 remarked in the first comment.

    I’ve got the problem with the facebook like button that shows the number of likes of an article.

    Since i install this plugin the button don’t show the number even if is “pressed”, the notification of the new link appears as liked on the facebook profiles of the users who “push” the button, but on the number of likes did not appear.

    When i “press” the button like on old articles, articles posted before i installed this plugin, everything works well and the like is counted, except the crapy format that appears on wall of people who liked the content, a random image of my blog. That was the reason i decided to install this plugin, to have freedom chosing the image i want in peoples profiles when they liked a post.

    I did not enter till now neither profile ID. Where i can add my personal account ID ? in the plugins option pannel where is “Aplication ID” ?

    You just need to enter your Personal Profile ID in the plugin’s options panel which can be found in the Settings Area.
