    Hello Team Yoast!
Hope you guys are all well.

I recently enabled a feature on my cache plugin (SG optimizer) which caused a problem i.e. the preview (title and image) of a post shared on Whatsapp would not appear. I talked to their team and they updated the plugin with a fix. The fix however displays the title of the post shared but the image is still missing. Therefore I messaged them and they said that SG optimizer is not causing the issue. I then talked to my theme developer and he stated that it is related to Yoast’s open graph and so I should talk to them. I have always had my social media links added on Yoast and I have the “Add Open Graph meta data” enabled for Facebook and the rest. The preview (title and featured image) works perfectly on Facebook. It is only on Whatsapp that the problem occurs and a few weeks back it worked flawlessly on Whatsapp as well so I am really confused what has happened. Not sure if this has something to do with Yoast or a conflict but I sure would appreciate any direction you can give me so I can solve this problem.

Summary: On Whatsapp, when I paste the link to a post, the title preview displays but not the featured image anymore.

Hope to hear from you soon

    Regards!

@hbk747 Regarding WhatsApp, their image requirements and recommendations are different from that of Facebook. Unfortunately we were unable to find an official guideline for the image requirements for WhatsApp, but you can find some similar recommendations here: https://roei.stream/2018/11/18/ideal-open-graph-image-size-for-whatsapp-link-share/

In the past it was recommended that the image needed to be under 300kb in size and 256x256px but not larger than 400x400px. We checked on the file you have set for the og:image and see that it measures 2162×865 and is 931 KB, so if you want the image preview to appear in WhatsApp we would recommend to try using a smaller image that follows those recommendations.

@devnihil Yes, I have read some of these Whatsapp guidelines, however, my image sizes have always been 1MB or larger and the dimensions have always been 1920 x 1080 and I never had an issue before. I have a theory though. I think my previous image optimization plugin, Optimole, was properly optimizing images and perhaps it allowed the featured image to be displayed or something.

    I will let you know

Thanks for your clarification. It is true that different image optimization plugin would optimize images differently. Since it is recommended to use an image that is under 300KB in file size and 256×256 in dimension, you shall follow the recommendation to see whether this resolves the issue for you.

    Hello guys.

I wanted to update you all as it might help someone and maybe you might be able to help me.

So apparently some of the featured images on posts work while others do not. Note that all the image sizes are above 300 kb and the dimensions are 1920 x 1080 so the file size and dimensions are not the issue – otherwise all images would have not appeared. Let me give you some examples:

The featured image preview displays for these posts:
    https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/china-and-india-in-indian-ocean/
    and
    https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/arab-israel-relations/

You can check these yourself but their featured image is displaying. I am sure there are others that are working too. However, most posts do not seem to be working.

I thought maybe the image names could be the cause. I read somewhere that uppercase letters should not be in the names of the images but my images (the ones that work) do have uppercase. Hope someone can shed some more light on this.

Thanks for your clarification. We are afraid to say that we are out of clue at this point as we can confirm that Yoast SEO is generating all the necessary social open graph meta that WhatsApp usage to show the image when sharing the page through message. So, it’s now up to WhatsApp as everything seems technically correct from our end.
