    Hi there!

Thank you so much for this light plugin! Really appreciated.

I was wondering if there are plans to include a whatsapp share button and/or copy link button.

And as a beginner, I am curious if I can add these buttons to my sidebar (wordpress widget area) by custom placement? For example, Can I add a short code as a text widget?

Thanks so much again! All the best

I’ll answer the sidebar question first: if you have shortcodes enabled for your widgets, you can use the [scriptless] shortcode in a widget area, but only on singular posts/pages. On archives/category pages, etc., the plugin will not be able to correctly get the URL/title/etc needed for the buttons, although they will show. So the answer there is yes, with certain limitations.

As far as I can tell, a “copy URL” button would require the use of JavaScript, so that’s not something I am likely to be adding to this plugin.

As for Whatsapp, if there is enough interest in adding a new network, I am happy to look into doing that, so I can certainly look into bringing a Whatsapp button to a future release. If you are okay with some code, I posted an example of how to add an SMS button–the same principles should work for any network.

Hope that helps get you started.

    Hi there Robin,

Thanks very much for your response. Your suggestion for the sidebar worked well for me, I just disabled the text widget from appearing on archive pages.

About whatsapp, I think i am not that familiar with coding yet but thanks for the resource. Whatsapp is the main mobile communication tool in some countries (like in Europe, Latin America) at the moment so I believe it could create a difference for mobile readers especially.

Thanks again for this awesome plugin,

Sure thing! I did some looking into WhatsApp and agree that it’s worth adding it as a button to the plugin. Look for that option in the next update–not sure yet of a release date as I’m trying to tidy up a different feature, but the WhatsApp button seems to be in and working well.

If you have a staging or test site where you feel like you can experiment, you can try the new button using the develop branch from Github. (I would not install this on a live site at this time.)
