• Ok I left a review of this plugin here a few days ago … and low and behold, it seems to have disappeared. It wasn’t hugely negative but was an opinion that it was very over-priced. I have used the free plugin, as well as another of this authors free plugins and I base my comments on actual usage of the products. I intentionally did not mention any other plugins to make sure it didn’t appear I was shilling for a competitor. So how does this work, WordPress? If an author doesn’t like a review, they can contact WordPress and have it removed? Kind of defeats the purpose of having user reviews, don’t you think??

Well this is the origonal comment I left. It showed up for awhile and then was taken down. We will see if this one sticks.

Certainly not a horrible plugin – does an ok job. But wow – the cost of the add-on modules are steep. Depending on your site, you may need several to be effective. Want to alter the form a little – 40$ add-on. Want comments – another 40$. Want an RSS module – another 40$. There are a dozen or so. And then on top of that – EVERY year you have to pay ANOTHER 10$ xtra for EACH add-on in order to ensure it works with any WP updates.
Don’t mean to throw cold water on this product – there are some situations where the free version may be fine.
But for me – Sorry there are other more cost effective and higher value for money products out there.

Totally off topic but here’s an explanation.

Ok I left a review of this plugin here a few days ago … and low and behold, it seems to have disappeared.

We get a lot of spam and your original review was caught in that. It happens. We try and do better and since you’ve left this review there’s no reason to restore the original one.

Now that 100% does not happen. Ever.

There have been reviews that attack the plugin or theme authors and just like any another topic or post those get moderated. But even if an author does not like a legitimate review it stays. The author’s reply can be more valuable than any 1 star review and users see that too.

In this case you’re not reviewing the plugin as much as you are reviewing the cost of the service. That’s fine because the author up sells the “premium” features on the plugin page here. That makes it fair game.

Now if your review was for something else the author does that’s not related to the WordPress repo software then yes, see my comment about moderation. Those reviews can be and sometimes are deleted.

I hope that clears that up. ??

    Hi petergb,

Thanks for taking the time to comment about AWPCP. We try hard to make them useful and spend a lot of time developing them, so we try to balance the prices accordingly. We provide some excellent support and are highly responsive to any questions or concerns you may have. We’re constantly updating and enhancing the plugin and premium modules, which is more than most plugins on WP.org can say. I’m sorry that you don’t feel the add-ons are valuable enough for you–developing that kind of functionality on your own would indeed cost much more than $40. We do offer discounts for purchasing them in bulk, so you can get a reduced price per module for that.

I can tell you that as an author, I have 0% control over the reviews on this site aside from commenting on them, as Jan attested to above. Any moderation that happens is through WP.org directly. If it were any other way, all plugins on WP.org would be all 5-star reviews, right? ??

Thanks Jan, for the clarification on how reviews work. I jumped to the wrong conclusion about how/why my first review was removed. My apologies. And thanks for the quick reply to set me straight.

Although I do see my other review for the Directory plugin is still missing. I will resubmit it, as I think it is important for potential buyers to hear all sides, and then make an informed decision. I know for several of my own purchases, I wish I would have looked at the reviews a little more closely before purchasing.

Also thanks for your reply awpcp. But when you say “developing that kind of functionality on your own would indeed cost much more than $40”. it is not really relevant is it? I mean it would cost more than 40$ to develop any one of thousands of plug-ins. What is relavent is how your costs compare to others in the market-place, along with their funcionality. And respectfully speaking – especially with your re-occuring yearly payments necesary to keep it compatable with WordPress, I think is over priced. But that is just me, and there are plenty of other reviews who probably disagree.

    Just my 2 cents.
