So I have two main questions:

    1. Is the only way to get out of the default look of WC to hand code it? I know there are themes, but I already started my WordPress side with OceanWP. I just want to make sure there’s no way to theme only the WC shop pages? are the WC child themes full WordPress global themes? it would be great if you could just theme the store.

    2. If you do have to hand code it, is there still not just some BASIC options? like how large a thumbnail is, how many rows/columns of products etc.? or is all that just code only?

If you look at the default shop, it looks pretty gross. I’m surprised there aren’t just a few basic options. Is it supposed to look this bad by default?

    Hi @andythreecoaching,

You can only have one theme active on your WordPress site at any given time and that theme controls how every part of your site looks including the store. If the theme was not designed with WooCommerce in mind, no attention would have been paid to how the store should look.

If you want to customize the look of specific portions without putting yourself in a bind where you are unable to update your theme when the developer puts out a new version, you can either override the specific templates or create a child theme and make your changes there.

This doc goes over the WooCommerce template structure as well as how to override a template in a manner that is safe for updates – https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/template-structure/.

    Hi @andythreecoaching,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
