There are 2 options for updating to WordPress 5.8. What’s the difference between these 2 options? They both say “WordPress 5.8–en_CA” but the top one has a note under it about “translation and various other localization fixes”.

  • en-CA means Canadian English version. I think the only differences are minor langauge differences such as “metre” instead of “meter”.

Yes, but both versions say en-CA.

I think that the footnote mentioning localized information under the first download is simply extra information. That footnote applies to both of the update prompts presented.

    Hi!
    Thank you for addressing this.
It is a known bug and will be fixed in 5.9.
Only the first one is true. The second one should be about en_US.

Here’s the ticket with some more information

Thanks for confirming. Just a quick follow up question. Will changing to a different localized version change anything on the front end of the website such as the format for how dates are displayed? Or does it only apply to the backend?

While you can set the date format in /wp-admin/options-general.php to suit your needs some themes/plugins can use their own date format in their outputs.

That gets ‘translated’ on translate.www.remarpro.com by translators that choose the format suited for their locale.

Here’s one example where a translator chose a different format for that locale.

So the date format might change when you choose another language.
    Regards!
