• OK, this is pretty hard to explain but when you go to your dashboard’s settings and go to ‘general’, there’s a box that you can check that says “Anyone can register” and when I checked it, I started getting emails saying users are registered as subscribers. However, there’s a widget that allows readers to leave their emails and and they become subscribers. So, I ask, what’s the difference between registering and signing up through the widget?

    Thanks! ??

  • Checking “anyone can register” adds a register link to your log in page and is known to be haunted by spammers who methodically access wp-admin pages.
If by “widget” you mean the one that comes with a plug in like subscribe2 – that’s for people to subscribe to get notified of new posts.
“Registered users” are registered automatically in your user list but still have to get an emailed password to access anything. “Subscribers” have to confirm their subscription by clicking an emailed link.

Ah OK, thank you so much for responding. OK, I unchecked the “Anyone can register” box. And yes that’s the widget I meant.

Thanks again web, really appreciate it
