hopefully this is of general interest…

I′ve used wordpress automatic upgrade always and it was one of the best plugins. always worked flawlessly!!!!!
now there is no more upgrades of the plug since februari 2010

    so I will
    – search for the best upgrade plug,
    – use wordpress admin
    – or use Fantastico.
    – manual updating

someone who has a comment on what′s the best way to upgrade…?
is there any specific advantage with any of these ways…?

    regards

  • Use the link on the WordPress Admin area.

Fantastico: Can lag behind the current WP version significantly.

Upgrade plugin: As you’ve seen, plugins aren’t always updated indefinitely. Some don’t work well in the first place.

Manual update: The second choice only because it’s all too easy to inadvertently over-write the wp-content folder.

    thank you very much esmi!
this is gold for me – and hopefully for a wider general interest…

could one say that manual upgrade is a little more insecure for the reason you mention – but has the advantage that one can delete the files…?

or do wordpress admin upgrade function delete appropriate files…?

    from:
    Upgrading WordPress Extended

Step 7: Delete the old WordPress files

Why Delete? Generally, it is a good idea to delete whatever is possible because the uploading (or upgrading through cPanel) process may not correctly overwrite an existing file and that may cause problems later.

Backup your WordPress files and database, then deactivate all plugins and use WordPress’ built-in automatic upgrade system. It’s definitely the easiest and the safest route. There could be some problems after the upgrade is done, but most of them are easily resolved.

You can always restore the backup if anything goes terribly wrong.
