• First I want to say that I like wordPress a lot, and I want to use it. However, It seems to me that a lot changed in WordPress since the .72 stable beta. Even up through .80 not a lot of things changed that much. Then there was the great renaming and something else happened…. Lots of little changes. So many that impact so many areas and then WHAM. 1.0 is released without a widespread test of all these little changes and an install that worked great is suddenly messed up, comments show up on every post, archives dissapear and who knows what else because its only been release for 14 hours. Wouldn’t it have been wise to have a .95 beta or a least an RC stable release before 1.0 was unleashed as Gold or Platinum?
I have tried both the Gold and Platinum releases, using both FTP and MS FrontPage as a clean install to a Linux/Apache site with the following versions of software:
    PHP Version 4.2.3
    MySQL 4.0.16
Is there any other info that will help debug problems?
The phpInfo can be seen here:

  • -small voice- it worked fine for me.. -/small voice-

Is there a change log somewhere so we know what has been changed and included in the new release?

The AlexKing site lists feature changes. This is not a change log of which modules have had modification made since the .80 or .72 release. It seems to me that it was weird that there was a .80 release but never a .80 beta posted on SourceForge or a document indicating what versions of files made up the .80 release.

I feel the big problem here was the pressure, the developers put upon themselves. I am quite sure, none of us WP-fans would have minded to get some “official” release candidate-versions, which would have to be somewhat stable, in some way, that is not CVS.
1.0 seems to have some major problems on some versions of PHP and Apache (like on my systems) when it comes to the headers for the admin menu, on some it seems to work smoothly.
Me for my part, I’ll have a look at those issues now and – if I can find some solution with my sub-par programming knowledge – will post my fixes to this forum.

All the install problems I had were created by myself. The CVS versions of the software were available for all to test and provide feedback. There is also a change log posted at the WordPress Wiki. I’m not sure about the “one comment” issue. That was not my experience.
There are always going to be bumps on the road. May I suggest that documenting problems, and, more importantly, solutions, and then posting that information is a more proactive approach which will bring everything into line a lot sooner.
The developers and the community will work together to get issues solved. I personally think that we should recognise the developers for working so hard OVER THE HOLIDAYS to do their best to give us something to work with. The best thing we can do is learn from everything and move on to make WP even better.
Sorry for the lecture, folks; I’m just to put some perspective into a what I think a free, open-source project is all about.
Don’t forget to have fun with it…I know I will. ??

The product idea, design and execution is great. The work effort is to be praised. All I am saying is that this isn’t a 1.0 release with so many early issues that could have been uncovered with a single release labeled pre-release or release candidate rather than saying that this was ready for production. Especially after pulling the .72 stable release from sourceforge. Having worked as a private and commercial developer. Without a single change history log or a RC version. someone would be fired or not paid. Oh what am I saying this is OpenSource. No one can be fired or not paid ??

That’s sort of what I have been trying to say.. ??
I just have some issues about CVS, since that’s obviously – sorry for saying it like that – a bit too geeky for some of us. I mean, I did get a CVS client only for the WP versions, I tried to get them to run and usually, when it didn’t work, I just thought.. “well, maybe they’re just working on that file” or whatever..
That’s why I tried to propose those RC-versions just now – to provide some “that is a common base for bug fixing and testing” thing – in fact, just like this 1.0 version is now.
And yes, I do respect the big heap of work, the developer gave themselves for the holidays – in fact, when they announced 1.0 for the end of 2003, I was already wondering, why they would give themselves such a tight schedule.
Well, I don’t know, what’s their time now, but I hope, they’ll have a good night’s sleep, don’t have any heart attacks when they see all those posts here and listen to the sheep.. erp.. I mean, the community.

Who are you calling a sheep?
I’m a moose, dang it! One more shot like that and you’ll be getting an antler up the wazoo! <BIG GRIN>
    Craig.

Boy, be careful.. I was wrestling mooses even before I had hair somewhere further south than my neck.. ??

Thanks for your feedback, but know that there *was* testing, quite a bit actually. Obviously it didn’t catch everything, but if you feel your platform has problems, and you would like to participate more in the testing in the future, email me or hang out in the IRC channel.

I had no problems upgrading! I don’t use the CVS because I’m too chicken. I had to change a few of my own mods/hacks that I had done, just one line, but everything else worked. No comments were duplicated, no posts were lost. ?? I just followed the directions that NM (Craig…sheep *LOL*) put up for me and then I fixed the stupid thing I did with the tables and all was well.
I like following someone that has everything ironed out and posts it for me. ?? That’s when I upgrade, after it’s been figured out. *LOL*
Sorry everyone is having so many problems!

Same here. I had no problems whatsoever in upgrading. My WP 1.0 installation is doing really great for me. I wonder why others have such lots of problems…I’ve even done re-hacks and they work great just the same as the 0.72 I had before.

i have problems from 0.6.2 to 1.0. From 0.72 to 1.0 I have no problems too.

Upgrading from .72 was an absolute breeze for me ?? Keep up the good work ppl!
