I’m wondering what would be involved — or if it’s even possible — to build a general table-block plugin where each cell could also contain any block sub-structures.

All the table plugins I’ve found (including the basic built-in one) assume each cell is just text (including anchored graphics of course), and not arbitrary sub-structures.

    Thoughts?

That’s because that’s what HTML tables are designed for: to hold tabular data. They’re not meant for creating layouts!

What you need is a block that can create rows and columns layouts, and there are several of these out there. The effect may look just like a table, but the underlying HTML codes and semantics are completely different.

Thanks, I understand tables aren’t for layout.

But there are times when you might want a cell to contain more than just rich text.

I’ll look into the row/column blocks.
