What type of URL hack is this?

  • I’m interested in learning what type of hack would create URL redirects that are NOT site-wide, but URL specific.

    Some redirect to outside domains, others appear to be pages on the current site. However, the pages are malformed, and a search of the WP database for any text on these pages returns no hits.

    I’ve followed the steps here here and the remote based scanners report the site as safe.

    I installed Wordfence and WPScan, both report no issues.

    This hack originally occurred in early 2017 and it took a while to discover it. My developer assured me that the issue had been resolved, however, the redirects are still occurring.

    A quick Google search for “/nl-NL/323-online-loting” shows this is apparently a pretty widespread hack.

    Anyone know the name for the hack, and additional steps that can be taken?
