    Hello!

I would like to use WordPress for a website I am building, and I am a bit lost with all the different things you can do with it. I want to make a fairly simple website. It will have news and events on the front page, for which I will use the normal post function, then it will have a few static pages. And then it will have one section which will have articles, which will be called Culture. This information will have to be organised in a few different categories, like Art, Drama, Music, etc. Each item within those sections will be an article, which I would like to tag with keywords. When somebody clicks on the “Culture” section I want them to see a list of the different categories on one side (Art, Music, etc) and a tag cloud of the keywords on the other. If possible I would even like to assign different colours to each of the categories and/or an image for each one.
I was going to make both the News part of the site and the Culture part of the site in posts, and make two categories, News and Culture. The Culture one would have subcategories and also tags with keywords. Is this the best way to organise it? I have also found the Pods plugin (https://pods.io/) and was thinking of using that for the Culture section but I’m not sure if it is appropriate for what I want to do. The other option, I suppose, would be to make all the articles on static pages, but then I wouldn’t be able to tag them (?) …

    Thanks in advance

What does your website look like at the moment?

Unfortunately I don’t feel that I can be very helpful. You can do everything you plan, the complication is that there are so many different ways to do it all, there are themes and plugins covering everything you ask for.

Suggest that you setup a localhost install, or an experimental proivate website on a sub-domain, and experiment with it. Expect to tryout many plugins and themes before you find ones you really like.

THEN start again and build your real site.

Thank you! I have set it up locally and am experimenting.
