• I want to migrate my WordPress org personal blog website from a VPS Server LAMP to a new VPS Server VPS – because it gets a lot of traffic… and is a very old installation & updating from 2011…

I think is best to create a new WordPress fresh all new installation and migrate to it…

well I ask some advise from the forums… What to do migrate to a fresh all new install or use that old installation from 2011… Please send URLs of the process you recommend…?

  • There’s always something gratifying about starting fresh. But, if you’ve had your site for a long time, there are likely many settings, configurations, modifications, plugins, etc., that you have managed… and it could take quite a bit of effort to replicate those. Especially if you have been actively been managing all those settings, patching plugins, etc. And it could be further complicated if you have custom templates, modified source code, etc. What would influence my decision is how complicated it would be to replicate the WordPress environment versus the tech stack which you are replacing.

I’ve migrated WordPress sites from different hosts/stacks previously using the import/export feature… but that doesn’t account for things such as plugins, or source code modification. There are some plugins and hosts that can handle more complex migrations, but I don’t have a lot of personal experience in that department… but just wanted to chime in make sure you consider the level of complexity might extend well beyond the stack and content of the website. Best wishes on your migration!

About source code modification, I think my case does not exist because it is zero as I remember, …

Starting fresh what step by step setup to follow?

I think I will start fresh and if it is difficult follow the other way around…

    Thank you for the info…

Where found the minimum requirements for PHP/MySQL as of the latest WP version? What versions are recommended?

I should start as a domain IP/~personal_blog and when finished redirect the actual domain… correct?

After finishing the steps, you have sent, … I should be migrating the Theme and Plugins,
    and lastly the Content… correct?

I usually redirect the DNS as the final step, so I concur with that strategy. This way you can ensure that the environment is functioning exactly as planned.

I also agree with getting your plugins and theme set up first. However, you may find that you need “some” content, even if it is placeholder content (pages, posts) in your new site to help you verify everything is working and looking as planned.

Then, in theory, you should be able to export your content from the old site and import it into the new site through the admin dashboard.

And it has other resources as well. Good luck with the migration! Make backups along they in case you hit an issue mid journey… you can then roll back partially rather than starting over from scratch.

I can also, another, to run WordPress on localhost on my PC & XAMPP Local Server,…
After all ok and setup migrate Files via FTP and Database to the live server… is this easier, you think… in related to other prior options?

and tips & tricks to take care of, if I choose this?

The challenge with doing it that way (FTP files + database) is that you’ll need to be careful that things like URLs are accurate, and database credentials match, etc. You may need to update settings in wp-config.php, etc., to reflect any differences. If you do a search for “how to migrate a wordpress site with FTP” you’ll see some more tips for success. I have not personally done this so I don’t have more advice.

About this error during Theme installation??

Installing theme from uploaded file: trendymag-wordpress-news-magazine-blog-theme-2022-02-21-23-52-49-utc.zip

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

    Theme installation failed.

    WordPress 6.2

I’ve only ever done a one at a time plugin install and activation method for setting up a new environment, so I don’t have much advice to offer on that matter. With regards to the theme install error, it is possible that the version of theme you are trying to install is not compatible with WP 6.2. I would head over to theme forest or the trendymag theme’s support page and ping them directly.

    1.

So, if I find a similar theme as of layout & web design, normally i will not have problems…?

    2.

New installed Plugins can be enabled/activated at once, all together? Is any problem with this?

The old VPS LAMP had problems overloaded at 1 or 2 times a month the last ten days of the month, i suspect is from WordPress blog auto backup process, but not remember what plugin is for this, is any way check this matter… in the logs, where located? I know exact day and time this happened, well…? Also if find and disable the plugin, no impact in site will have this normally, correct?

Hmmm, I would definitely take a look at the backup process, for sure. You don’t want it interfering with uptime/availability. But you are saying you don’t know which plugin is doing the backups? I would look at your plugins closely and deactivate any you don’t need or aren’t using… and then reconsider/re-explore a different backup option. Also, if you are running your own server, you should consider backing up (incrementally) the entire environment on a regular basis. But again, after the first (initial) backup, incremental backups shouldn’t bog your server or WP environment down.
