what to do about File Changes Detected

    I have recently started using iThemes Security, and now for the first time I have file changes detected on one of the sites I manage. There are a handful of users at the editor level, posting to the blog.

    What do I do about the file changes, and how do I know if they are legitimate changes (by me, updates, another user or plugin)?

    The changes are mostly all file additions, but there are some file change detections that have no additions, removals or changes, they just cite a memory usage number.

  • Hey Cstuart,

    This really comes down to “you know your site the best”. By a general rule of thumb you can ignore back and cache processes as you know they’re going to be constantly running. You can even exclude them on the Settings page.

    It’s worth mentioning that we’re currently working on improving this feature.

    Thank you Gerroald for your quick response, I think I have things figured out now.

    To help others that may read this thread, I think I had to recognize that the empty logs were just the plugin doing a scan of a chunk of files and finding no changes, and that also this meant that the changes that were logged on different days didn’t necessarily occur on that day, but were from updates done several days prior. Otherwise, seeing that changes were occurring daily when you are the only one who has the ability, is alarming.

    I do like the feature of your pro version that allows you to compare core files with the current version core files from WordPress. I may be updating to the pro version some time in the future for this feature in particular.
