Two things; I suspect it’s not wordpress since I don’t see any call to a wp folder of content and theme.

How can I find something just like it in wordpress? Something where the columns won’t be too small for youtube videos, something that’ll have neat long and not too tall boxes just like this, and something that’ll provide me with a way to search for my items and not wind up in dead ends in navigation, be it with a search bar or the neat little categories he set up on the right sidebar.

Believe you me, I’ve been trying all morning with a number of themes. Elegant themes was a disaster, they look good, but they probably all have pathetic customization options. I’ve tried with semiologic too, and it can’t take in the entire width of a youtube video (without, I guess, having to hard code..)

  • That’s not a WordPress site.

Looks to me like he originally started with a wordpress site and then just viewed the source of the file….pasted it in HTML and cleaned it up. But I am new to WP, so I could be wrong.

Why would you think that? Just looks like A.N.Other HTML/CSS site to me.

I’m not familiar with any WordPress themes that generate table based layouts.

I’m pretty surprised at how mediocre the templates I’m coming across are. I can’t seem to get the simplicity of this template in them. Something that won’t find youtube videos and Amazon Buy Now signs collapsing into the right sidebar, something that’ll provide a search menu item at the top of the home page, a theme that’ll simply place categories under different pages in the menu, a theme that’ll make tables like this, a theme that’ll give more than the title when you go browsing into ”older entries”. Is it too much to ask?!

The WP default themes provides the menu and youtube vids fit in, but little else. The highly touted Thesis framework doesnt provide menu editing capacity!! despite which you can edit the column size.
Then there’s countless other themes or frameworks that have pathetic editorial capacity, like Elegant Themes, which has tables but you can’t edit anything and the vids collapsse into the right sidebar and there are no way to edit the menus, or the Socrates theme, where there’s no damn menu, or the Semiologic theme, where the youtube vids collapse into the right sidebar…

I dont wanna hard code or learn how to hard code, but is this too much to ask!?

Id greatly appreciate if you can point me in the direction of what I’m looking for…

Really? I find some of them are breathtaking in their complexity.

Yes, it is too much to ask. Sorry, but that’s just the way it is.

That’s a pretty plain website linked in your original post, and you can get something that basic via the Hybrid theme. It’s another framework and that will get you started.

But if you want to customize your theme (child theme) then you’ll need to learn how to do this with some CSS, some PHP, and learn how WordPress works.

You can try my Jenny WP theme (search for it in the repository). Or, get one theme made for yourself.

I’d be disappointed looking at those themes too. Check out the theme finder from WPCandy. Also, check out the 2010 Weaver theme. It has some nice customization options built on top of twentyten.
