• Heya,

    I’m wondering if anyone can tell me what template does Twenty Twelve use to display the blog landing page? I’m creating a child theme that seems to be missing the sidebar of categories, tags, etc…

    Thank you!

  • the template will be index.php unless you are using a static front page;

    howver, for the sidebar to appear, you will need to have widgets in the widget areas under dashboard – appearance – widgets

    Thanks for the response.

    I do have a static front page set. So does that mean it will use something beside index.php then?

    I believe it uses front-page.php in that case.

    Thanks for the input WPyogi, but that doesn’t seem to be right because that file doesn’t exist within TwentyTwelve (by default).

    Actually it does — it’s inside a folder called page-templates. It still shows up in the editor in the dashboard (though that may only happen if you have the front page set to static).

    Just in case you might not already know: The sidebar will not appear on the front until after you put something in it at the back.

    Thanks for correcting me WPyogi, I totally didn’t see that!

    leejosepho, I don’t understand what you’re saying. “until after you put something in it at the back”?

    WPyogi, so I’m slightly confused now about how to achieve my goal. Here’s the lik to the page, and you’ll notice the meta information in the lower left. That should appear in the white area on the left instead.

    Thanks for all your input everyone!

    In Twenty Twelve if you have a static page set – lest say Home – and you have your post set to a page – lets say Blog – the blog page will use the index.php to format the posts/Blog page. The Index.php will be used even if you go to the Blog page and tell it to use a different template (go figure).
