What subscribers are really for?

Hi everyone,

I added the option to readers to create an account in my WP site, and the role they get by default is subscriber (I don’t want them to be able to create posts). Now, I have been reading everywhere, and still I can’t find an answer… What is the use of a subscriber? I know that the won’t need to add their name an email everytime they comment, but is there anything more to it? Like do they get an email when I create a new post? Or something else.

I’m not using any plugging for this, so I just want to know what else I can do with my subscribers with just the wordpress installation.
