• Hello I’m new to plugin development and I’m planing my first release of a plugin that let’s you easily import real estate objects from immobilienscout24.de.
Immobilienscout is a German website and the target audience of the plugin are German speaking real estate agents and german developers.

Until now I have only used strings in German language inside the plugin although I made them translatable _e( ‘This way.’ ).
Now I’m thinking about submitting it to the WP repo and start to ask my self if that was a good idea. What if a real estate agent from Germany hires a developer from India to build a website that promotes houses to investors in russia?

Maybe I’m overthinking this but my main question is:
Is it mandatory to submit a plugin in English? Will this hinder my plugin submission process? Can I submit a readme.txt in German?

  • “Is it mandatory to submit a plugin in English? “
    No.

“Will this hinder my plugin submission process?”
    No.

Everyone does not speak/read/write English so there is no need for them to be in English. It does not hinder a plugin at all – do submit it ??

If you ask for a translation someone may do one for you.

There is nothing that says English is mandatory in the detailed plugin submission guidelines but I would imagine that you’ll get a bigger potential audience if you use English. You could always include the German language pack as part of the default download.

Thank you both! I will definitely consider support for English for future releases but right now I have to focus on getting it done at all.
