What may happen when renaming existing default roles?

  • I’ won’t be using WP for traditional publishing, but for a school. I’d like to rename classic roles with “teacher”, “student”, “secretary”… I was thinking to use existing roles to avoid extra garbage, but I am afraid that renaming the default ones may spoil functionality of plugins or themes that may try to use rol3 name/description….
    Could this happen?

    In relation of security or checking permissions – plugins and themes use role ID, not role name. The is no problem with renaming here.

    Yes, some plugins may build dropdown list with built-in roles names hard coding them. You will still see ‘editor’ and ‘author’ at those pages in this case.
