I was about to install it because it looked great. Then I read about the many limitations (plus hidden catches) and the highly un-competitive price of the Pro version, and I sadly decided to give up on this. CoursePress looked so beautiful and simple, but it costs more than any other fully developed LMS theme out there. I’m giving 3 stars without testing the plugin, there’s no need to do it with all the above hindrances. Why are you guys doing so much harm to yourself?
What I really don’t get is WPMU busines model. It’s not clear if it’s a community of developers you can share knowledge with (you do find their tutorials/forum here and there), or if you pay monthly to get a developer at your service to solve all your WP problems, or if you just pay to get a support on some products that are supposed to have no support because they are marketed solid as rocks. I really don’t understand why WPMU are around. Given their prices, maybe it’s just another web company making loads of buck by exploiting the booming WordPress market. Or it might be a great service for people who has got loads of money (just like those who play Forex because they got money to spare)… But do you really think that people turned to online business if they really had the resources? I mean, who is really your business consultant?

Oh yes, having a team of developers at your service 24/7 would be a dream for anyone of us, but then let me put it another way: what guarantees me that you guys can solve any problem I got on my website? I always hear “you must hire a developer to fix it”… why wouldn’t these words come from you one day? As a amtter of fact, most of the turorials you published didn’t work for my site, so what assures me that you are the skilled developers you mention you are?
I mean, people has asked me 5-10k$ to fix my site, and I would just solve it with your membership? Make my day.

    Hey there @arsenalemusica,

First of all thanks for taking time to write a review and rate CoursePress plugin ??

As for giving the plugin 3 stars without even testing it, that really doesn’t sound fair and shouldn’t be what these reviews are all about. Don’t get me wrong, nobody is stopping you from writing a review/rating plugins but rating solely because you’re not liking WPMU DEV business model shouldn’t really reflect the rating of CoursePress especially because CoursePress has free version which I’m pretty sure you’re aware of since you posted a review in CoursePress section here on www.remarpro.com.

Now with regards to the pricing, yes you can say that’s a lot just for an LMS system but WPMU DEV membership doesn’t give you only CoursePress Pro, you get over 100 plugins, Upfront themes and some of the cool service plugins such as Smush Pro for image optimization, Hummingbird to further optimize your site loading speed, Defender for security, Snapshot for backups including 10gb of storage on our cloud servers, Hub where you can monitor all your websites and update plugins/themes from a centralized dashboard, Academy so you can check and enroll all the awesome courses made by our experts and much more.

Also as for having team of developers at your service 24/7, this refers to our support team, and yes we have support team online 24/7 and our staff members are ready to help you in any given time. As much as our support helps with any WordPress related issue we can’t offer assistance in fixing all issues, with regards to our products and issues that arise from our products our support staff will locate the problem and pass it to our developers so they can fix it, for third party products and if the problem is on third party products side if our tech support can help fixing that we’re absolutely going to do that but if that requires a lot of time then usually you’d have to get assistance from third party plugin/theme developers.

There’s also a free 14 day trial currently available so you can sign up and see if this suits you, if not you can cancel and walk away, no strings attached ??

    Have a great day!

    Cheers,
    Bojan

You are absolutely right I should have not given 3 stars for a product I haven’t tested. I misused this review forum, my bad. As a matter of fact I’d raise it to 5 (but the system won’t allow that) because it’s true that WPMU is an active community with great products.
I just don’t like the business model, true. After all, it’s down to paying for a plugin and have to pay each time you want an update of it. So it’s not that I criticize your policy, I just don’t find it economically attractive. But I’m sure there are many who do, and can afford it.

    Hey again,

Glad to hear we’re on a same page about this ??

You should still be able to change the rating until the thread is closed by going to plugin reviews page and scrolling down to the bottom of the page, if you want to change it of course.

    Cheers,
    Bojan
