• Has anyone noticed the trend of these sort of drone WordPress installations out there that seem to be set to mindlessly post a few lines of a post found elsewhere, and then a link to it with the text, “Read the rest of this great post here.”

Is there some kind of plugin or app that people are using to create these sites? What is up with them? Here are some examples:

You can see the pattern — a million posts, none of them original work, and never any comments.

  • You won’t believe how trusting some people can be. and not that great a proportion of the general population. If just 5 out of a thousand people shell out cash for the spammer’s product, it can still mean a fair amount of cash for the creep. And the presence of dolts among us gives certain types the impression we’re all like the fools.

Simple Trackback Validation may be what you’re looking for. Or you could try one of the numerous (anti) Spam plugins. Good luck.

robbpdx: I’ve had a few of those hit my site. I block them when I can figure out where they’re coming from.

I think that most of them are using plugins which read the RSS feeds and then republish. There’s a few plugins that do this.

What Otto said. These look like posts made up of RSS feeds.
