I can’t seem to access a URL where the categories lead to (slug). For example I have “Landscapes” as a category. What URL would I go to on my site to reach this category. Also I can’t seem to figure out how to create a list of these categories. I would like to have them in my sidebar but I just can’t figure out where they are located fro the front end. I read through the entirety of the documentation and could’t find anything that explained it. Thanks for the help.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

At present you cannot link to a download category or download on the frontend like traditional posts, you must use a shortcode. When you add downloads to a category you can use them with the [ddownload_list] shortcode:

    [ddownload_list categories="cat-slug"]

Ok cool thanks for clearing that up for me. I think for my purposes I would probably be better off using the post categories to make finding images easier for my visitors.

Is there any benefit from an SEO standpoint, using the categories? Do you know if the “Downloads Categories” of Tags get crawled and indexed like the post categories and tags do?

    Thanks,
    Matt

There is nothing stopping the download categories or tags from being crawled, however something would have to link to them first for the crawler to find them. I’m no expert when it comes to SEO however I see no benefit in having the categories crawled as they do not contain any content. Ideally you would want to add the noindex attribute to the taxonomies so that if the crawler did find them it would not index them. WordPress SEO by Yoast lets you do this.
