• I Installed photopress so that I and my friends can manage a photo gallery with one account (wordpress account). Now I get the process fo uploading, categorizing, etc. I don’t know what the URL is to show the visitors of the Picture. DOes anyone who uses this Plugin know?

Your help is very much appreciated.

  • Well, you can put pictures in posts of course. Just click the little picture icon on the right of all the visual editors icons. You can upload a new pic, or browse from previously uploaded pics. Follow the prompts to put an image in a post.

If you want to view the entire album, you can visit https://yourdomain.com/wordpress/album I’m not sure if that needs permalinks on or not. Also, the styling of it may need to be adjust in your css.

that doesn’t seem to work for me. 1-punctuality.com/haute/album does not work

I’ve checked, and you do need permalinks on to use the album token in the uri. There is also a setting in the admin area for the album token where you can make it any word you choose. Options > Photopress and scroll down a bit to Album Token.

I do use permalinks. check out the rest of the site. the permalinks do well.

well, what I’ve said works for me. without more information, all I can suggest is you go to the source (the author). perhaps you could run through the install instructions again. maybe something was missed. I’ve installed it about 6 or 8 times, and it’s worked properly each time. maybe you have a conflicting plugin?

i’ve run thru it again. It still doesn’t work. i have 2.0.3 and ?pp_album=main is the only one that works even though i have applied permalinks. my permalinks option is custom >> %postname%

I’ve found out something very weird. When I go to my permalinks options and if I choose either “Date & name based” or “numeric” the 1-p.com/haute/gallery works. but if I use “custom” (/%postname/), then 1-p.com/haute/gallery will not work.

It sounds like the permalinks code isn’t updating your .htaccess file. If you make a change to your permalinks, does it shows the code for the .htaccess (scroll down to check). If it does, that indicates you need to update it manually. Just copy the code, and then manually replace the contents of .htaccess.

.htaccess is not normally visible in a list of files, but it’s there.

Also, is the use permalinks setting on in the photopress settings? You might have mentioned that before, I haven’t read back. Photopress has it’s own setting for that too.

The .htaccess code isn’t there. it updates automatically becuase I have made the .htaccess file writable. and yes the permalinks option is ON in the photopress settings. album token is gallery

hmmm. you say it’s updating the .htaccess file, yet not every version of permalinks works, and the album token isn’t recognize in the rewrites …

could it be possible you have another .htaccess file, perhaps in the html root? it could be conflicting with yours.

do you have shell access? do a ls -al and see if there is an .htaccess file in the html root or elsewhere. I’m puzzled by this one.

I have been working on this same problem for most of the day. I think I have just found the answer – I was using a custom permalink format based on the date and name based example, which is:
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

but I was just using /%postname%/

after reading through many of these threads and confirming for myself that other formats did work, I decided to try removing the trailing ‘/’.

That seems to have done the trick, my gallery pages are working now. Give it a try and see if that helps.

I spoke too soon, I still have the 404 problem on my main gallery/album page and the category pages. But this fix does work for the individual images when you click through from the thumbnails.
