Thanks. But what I need is not the instructions on installing WordPress, I want to know the best practice when old non-Wordpress site and new WordPress co-exist.

You need to set up a development site.

There’s a few ways of doing this. The most common ones are:

• A sub-folder, eg: https://www.mysite.com/dev/
• A sub-domain, eg: dev.mysite.com
• A separate development domain, eg: devdomain.com

If it’s your site I’d suggest either a sub-folder or sub-domain and then move the site across to the live domain when you’re done.

I read the move the site carefully. It said “If database and URL remain the same, you can move by just copying your files and database.”. It is easy to copy the wordpress files, but where is the database file?
