    Hello Forum!

I’d need to hade a date-based range of media to be transferred from site to site, including all media data like titles, descr, alt tags and so on.

Some of these media files are already on the new site, because we use post publishing plugin for ‘post to another website’ purpose. Yet these cloned madia files do not have proper data ane will have to be replaced.

    So questioon is:
Has anyone came up with issue like this and what worked best in your case?

    Would you
    a) grab files + media database entries and go full-raw files+database data move?
    b) simply use wp export/import
    c) go custom way (what?)

    thanks!

  • @adamderesz is the rest of the data in the site you’re wanting to transfer from the same as the site you are wanting to transfer to? In other words, are the images being used inside of posts or pages, and those relationships need to be kept?

yep, I’ve got part of content transferred, but here’s more coming in the meantime, while we work on dev place. SO at some point we will have to ‘add’ date range of posts+media+nextgen galleries.

My thinking was to make it raw and dirty, exporting date range either in database+files or using wp-export-import tool (any).

One more problam so far – the old content gets sanitised/restructured. So old categories are mostly there, but re-ordered…. so maybe we will end up with raw posts transfer and do the category re-assignment then.

I can also make it in steps, ie, make weekly transfers as development will last circa 2 more weeks imho

really appreciate your notes and sharing ways you maybe did it some time or what you think would be best way to do it

    thanks

Ok, glad you have some ideas.

The other way to go about it is to use a site migration plugin. There are both free and commercial plugins out there that allow you to migrate only the database, or only the media files.

    (@adamderesz)

well, the site already is migrated, sort of
in it’s new location – id had to be re-structured to fix old issues and structure, so we’re looking for just add the missing posts that grow during the development period, as clean and swift as possible.

So – what way would you make such ‘patch’?
The wordpress inport-export or far better to use different tool?

Had a chance to make smth like that in past?
Just looking for custom experiences on such filling up with data chunks by date.

    cheers
    Adam
