What is the best practice for creating a staging site ?

    What I am trying to do:
    I am redesigning a wordpress site with a new template. I have changed all the cosmetics with css while using a very useful plugin called “Theme Test Drive.” This worked great, but now I would like to change the structure of the site (side nav elements). I don’t want to change this on the site that is live now, only on the new site.

    Question?
    Do you know of a plugin that would help me do this, or what do you think would be the best way of doing this?
